I would like to ask for your support on an issue that as I am getting older, is making much more sense to me. I propose the people change current Florida law to allow properly licensed medical doctors the ability to treat their patient(s) in the best way necessary, without untrained government officials thinking they know what’s best for our sick and suffering citizens.
I am 61 years old and I currently have two good friends suffering with cancer. One is in the last stages of lung cancer and the other is in the beginning stages of prostrate cancer. My friend with lung cancer is just waiting to die and the drugs he must take are keeping him in a mental stupor. In order to control the unrelenting pain and suffering, his dosages of prescribed chemical pain relievers now increase almost daily. He just lays there moaning and drifting in and out of mental clarity. It is with great sadness that I plead on his behalf. My other friend with prostrate cancer has just had to stop his radiation treatments, only after a few weeks, due to the pain and suffering he is now experiencing when urinating. He hopes to restart his treatments as soon as he is able however the chemical drugs he has to now use are not without serious side effects. I too plead on his behalf as I would like to have him around for many more years and it is my understanding his cancer is an aggressive cancer and without his doctors prescribed treatments life may/will become very short.
What is the law I propose that needs to be changed? I propose that medical marijuana should become available for doctors to prescribe IF they feel it will help their patients. All of the “real” studies done on the medical benefits of marijuana show with out a doubt it is extremely, and let me repeat, extremely beneficial in helping to treat the pain and suffering of cancer patients. This is a fact that is undisputed by intelligent people. I do not propose making marijuana legal WITHOUT a doctors prescription. I only propose that we should allow our medical doctors to decide that IF in their medical opinion, based on many valid scientific medical studies, that this ancient herb/drug may/will help their patient(s), that LEGALLY, they should be allowed to prescribe it, and their patient(s) to legally possess and use it. I propose that medical marijuana to be strictly regulated by the government, just as ALL currently prescribed drugs are today.
Please help end the needless suffering of all Florida cancer patients and allow them access to a natural herb currently being used all over the world. This law has now been enacted in thirteen other states. Please help Florida become number fourteen.
